The museum has a vibrant education department vested with the duty of ensuring that heritage information is disseminated to the public for their enjoyment and education.

The Museum offers guided tours to all its visitors at no extra cost. Advance bookings are advised for school groups. Also available are lectures, talks, demonstrations, slide and video shows and the Education Hall may be hired for meetings and other functions.

The National Museums Board of Zambia is a statutory body created through an Act of Parliament, Chapter 174, of the Laws of Zambia with the principal role of collecting, documenting, preserving and presenting Zambia’s movable heritage for public benefit, education and enjoyment.
