The section focuses on the collection and documentation of cultural heritage of the different ethnic groups in Zambia.

Recent research in the section concentrated on the study of the impacts of HIV/ AIDS on the social organization of society; the use of traditional communication methods in the dissemination of information on HIV/AIDS. The preservation and propagation of traditional skills and their application in self employment and poverty reduction.

The National Museums Board of Zambia is a statutory body created through an Act of Parliament, Chapter 174, of the Laws of Zambia with the principal role of collecting, documenting, preserving and presenting Zambia’s movable heritage for public benefit, education and enjoyment.
